Plan for the conditions between your front door and the venue. Warm rooms do not remove the need for suitable clothing on the journey there and back.
Check before you leave.
Look at the current forecast and relevant travel alerts. Toronto's winter guidance recommends clothing layers and covering exposed skin. Choose footwear for the route and conditions you will encounter, including wet crossings and slippery surfaces.
If conditions make the trip unsuitable, check the booking's change policy and contact the venue. A reservation is not a reason to take a journey you cannot manage safely.
Keep the dry things dry.
Separate damp swimwear or towels from the clothes you will wear home. A spare pair of socks is useful only if it stays dry and you can find it without emptying your whole bag.
Ask where wet outerwear and boots belong when you arrive. Keep entrances and changing routes clear, and use the venue's storage arrangements rather than spreading belongings across shared seating.
Leave time to get ready for outside.
Allow enough time to dry off, change and put on the layers you need. Do not book your return connection so tightly that leaving properly dressed becomes a last-minute negotiation.
Check the trip home as well as the outward route, especially if weather or service conditions have changed. If you are travelling with someone, agree where you will meet once you are both ready.
The aim is an outing that remains comfortable after you leave the building. A little attention to the ordinary journey can matter more than adding another item to the part of the visit that happens indoors.
